A Moser amethyst dresser box, c. 1880β1900. The domed lid features hand-painted white blossoms and gilded leaves arranged in a delicate circular motif, all set against the rich purple glass body. These smaller boxes were often sold in high-end boutiques and favored by European nobility for vanity tables and boudoirs.
Historical Note
Founded by Ludwig Moser in 1857 in Karlsbad (modern-day Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic), Moser Glass became synonymous with luxury and artistry. The company supplied royal courts across Europe, including those of Emperor Franz Joseph I and King Edward VII, and was celebrated for its richly colored lead-free crystal and masterful enamel work. The color of this box, a deep amethyst tone, was especially prized in the late Victorian and early Edwardian eras for its regal association and ability to showcase fine gilding.
