Historical Note:
The Nakara line by C.F. Monroe Co. of Meriden, Connecticut, was introduced in the late 19th century as part of a series of fine art glassware meant to rival French opaline and satin-finished pieces. Each item was individually hand-painted and often paired with gilt fittings and silk interiors. These dresser boxes were prized as luxury vanity items during the Gilded Age and continue to be sought after today for their soft matte finishes and romantic hand-enamel work.
