A charming hand-painted porcelain posy holder (also known as a tussie-mussie or bouquet holder), dating to the late Victorian era, c. 1890–1905. The delicate fluted form is adorned with clusters of purple violets and curling raised gilt scrollwork in a lattice motif, finished with gilt accents along the stem.
Historical Note
Posy holders like this one were fashionable accessories in the late 19th century, carried by ladies at afternoon teas, garden parties, and weddings. Small bouquets—known as tussie-mussies—were arranged in these decorative holders and often tied with silk ribbons or lace.
